The first-Friday-of-the-month crowd at Madam's Organ confirms that vocalist Billy Mayfield is much brighter and headed for stardom.

Musician, singer and songwriter Billy Mayfield formed R&B, Soul and Funk band "The Soul Truth with Billy Mayfield" more than seven years ago. In that time, the band has grown from local act to one that has performed at nationally televised events. The South Truth has performed at nationally televised NBA and WNBA games. The Band is also comfortable performing in more intimate settings, including Madam's Organ and larger events like Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund Winter Gala and their annual three on three basketball tournament. The Soul Truth is best known for its renditions of Rhythm and Blues and Funk classics.

The band can currently be seen at Madam's Organ in Adams Morgan and other nightclubs and events around Washington, DC. Before singing lead vocals and playing guitar and keyboards with his band The Soul Truth, Mayfield sang in church since the age of four years old and all through Elementary and High school.

Since moving to the DC area in 1987 Billy Mayfield has performed with The Capitol Centre Quintet. The Cappella group was a featured half time act at NBA games in Washington, DC. Mayfield also sang the Star Spangled Banner at countless NBA basketball games. He also had a blues band back in the early 90's called "The Chosen Few."

"I've had a very blessed musical life I've shared the stage with some great players. The best is yet to come."

His fans agree - "Mayfield doesn't just make eye contact, he wants to take you away from it all work, home and just enjoy some good music."

When Mayfield isn't performing with The Soul Truth, he can often be seen Performing with other bands. In October 2001, Mayfield traveled to Tono, Japan for the American Music Festival www.TonoArts.org as the bass guitarist with gospel group and composer Minister Melvin Bryant and Agape. He's also performed in Melbourne and Port Sea, Australia in the year 2000. Mayfield can also be seen at times performing with friends for local and national Charity events such as the Daniel Pearl memorial fund raiser.

It's because of his versatility that Mayfield is a "man for all occasions." His passion for the stage and performance electrifies any bar, nightclub or restaurant. Even a shift in venue doesn't stop the accolades. Wherever he sings -- corporate functions, festivals or openings for recording artists -- guests keep begging for more. Mayfield is working on his first solo CD project, "It's not the world it's the people." Which should be available in mid September 2004 Until then ….
